LAUSD TITLE I ENGAGEMENT POLICY
The purpose of Title I is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.
The Elementary & Secondary Education Act was reauthorized on December 10, 2015, as the Every Student Succeeds Act, and requires that Districts annually rank and serve schools. Title I schools may implement one of two programs: Title I Schoolwide Program (SWP) or Title I Targeted Assistance (TAS).
Schools receiving these supplemental federal funds are required to provide services that raise the academic achievement level of K through 12th grade participants. Additional support may be provided through professional development and health and guidance services. Parents of children being served have the opportunity to participate in the design and implementation of the program through activities such as serving on the school site council; developing parental involvement policies and compacts; attending parent-teacher conferences, parent training and literacy workshops; participating as classroom volunteers, tutors, and aides, etc.

TITLE IX COMPLIANCE NOTICE
Senate Bill 1375 recently added a section to Education Code 221.61, relating to Educational Equity, which requires that on or before July 1, 2017, individual schools post in a prominent and conspicuous location on their Internet websites specific information relating to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) to promote the goal of providing greater levels of gender equity in schools.

CENTRAL HIGH TRI-C SCHOOLWIDE LEARNER OUTCOMES
Central High School Tri-C graduates will be college and career ready. They will:
● Know how to weigh ideas, evaluate, analyze, and reach conclusions;
● Frame their own thoughts with evidence and examples;
● Extend their own thinking and that of others;
● Know how to think independently, while working collaboratively;
● Be aware of personal strengths, challenges, lifestyle requirements, career interests, and have realistic job goals and expectations;
● Contribute to the economic, social, and political well-being of their local and global community;
● Persevere and persist in the face of adversity, challenge, and change.
CENTRAL HIGH TRI-C SCHOOLWIDE ACTION PLAN: 2018-2022
Action Item 1: Improve reading fluency and comprehension across the curriculum by 5% each year.
Action Item 2: Improve mathematics literacy by 5% each year.
Action Item 3: Increase attendance at Central High and Tri-C by 10%.
Action Item 4: Increase CELDT scores in Advanced and Early Advanced designations, to reclassify our LTELs to RFEP by 10%.
Action Item 5: Increase student access to postsecondary college and career awareness and planning.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
LAUSD is committed to engaging parents in their child’s education. Over 30 years of research confirms the important role of parent involvement in student achievement. Parents are their child’s first and life-long teachers and can influence their child’s education outcomes in powerful and long-lasting ways. The core belief that parents are our partners is the foundation for the District’s overarching policy on parent engagement and is reinforced through its Title I Parent Involvement Policy and school-level parent involvement policies.

CENTRAL HIGH AND TRI-C BELL SCHEDULES
All Central High School and Tri-C sites have bell schedules which are aligned with state and district instructional requirements. These schedules are consistent from site to site within each school; Central High School has a total of 240 minutes of instructional time each day, and Tri-C has a total of 360 instructional minutes. INDIVIDUALIZED GRADUATION PLAN
When your child enrolls at Central High/Tri-C, our school counselor works with you and the student to develop an Individualized Graduation Plan (IGP). The plan outlines the courses needed to complete all LAUSD requirements and earn a diploma. Our current IGP and AB 216 IGP are available within the Parent Resources section on this page.
Parents as Equal Partners in the Education of Their Children, a resolution adopted by the LAUSD Board of Education in December 2010, embraces family strengths and assets as essential to the academic success of students, and recognizes parents as the first and most important lifelong teachers of their children. To that end, families and schools accept responsibility for student success and commit to a partnership that:
- Maintains high expectations for student achievement
- Ensures all children are college and career ready
- Promotes productive conversation and collaboration
- Reflects mutual respect and support for each other
PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO:
- A free, quality education that honors their child’s learning and achievement
- An education that prepares their child for college and 21st century careers
- A welcoming environment that values family assets and contributions to learning
- Know the school’s expectations, educational programs, policies and procedures
- Translation services in order to communicate effectively with school staff
- Their school’s Report Card to assess the quality of their child’s school
- Information about their child’s progress and performance, intervention strategies and learning supports
- Visit their child’s classroom and develop partnerships with teachers and staff
- Learning opportunities so they can support education at home and at school
- File a formal complaint when necessary, without fear of reprisal
PARENTS HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO:
- Promote literacy, high achievement, and a love of learning at home
- Ensure their child attends school every day, on time, and is ready to learn
- Monitor and guide their child’s academic progress to ensure success
- Seek tutoring and other learning supports for their child when needed
- Explore all campus options and school choices available to their child
- Conference with teachers and other school staff about their child’s education
- Participate in school meetings and activities to be informed about the school
- Express their level of satisfaction through the annual School Experience Survey
- Provide pertinent information about their child as requested by the school
- Advocate for their child’s education and for the school’s well-being
FOCUS ON LEARNING: 2021-2022 WASC REPORTS
Accreditation certifies — to other educational institutions and to the general public — that a school meets or exceeds established standards and is achieving its own stated objectives.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges ("WASC") grant “institutional accreditation” after a comprehensive self-study followed by an on-site evaluation of the school's programs and services. This means that all diploma or degree programs and educational activities offered by a school are covered by the institution’s accreditation. The evaluation determines whether or not the school qualifies for regional recognition, but more importantly, periodic self-studies and reviews promote improvement in educational quality.

PARENTS AS EQUAL PARTNERS
Parents as Equal Partners in the Education of Their Children, a resolution adopted by the Board of Education in December 2010, embraces family strengths and assets as essential to the academic success of students, and recognizes parents as the first and most important lifelong teachers of their children. To that end, a Task Force of parents, community leaders, teachers, and LAUSD administrators wrote the "Parents as Equal Partners" report, which supports collaboration between home and school to ensure student success. Central High/Tri-C welcomes parental and community engagement in school decision-making, and urges all parents to become familiar with the "Parents as Equal Partners" report. APPLY FOR LUNCH!
One of the most important actions you can take to help your children and help the educational programs at Central High/Tri-C is to submit an LAUSD Meal Application at the start of school each year. Why is it so important?
For you: Your children may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school. Many people are surprised to learn that they qualify. Remember, federal money is allocated for just this purpose!
For our school: Central High/Tri-C depends on funds provided by the federal "Title I" program, and our Title I funding depends on the percentage of meal applications that qualify. If all Central High/Tri-C families apply, we'll meet the qualification threshold (50%) and receive these funds. If eligible families do not apply, we can miss the threshold and lose funding. More than 50% of Central High/Tri-C students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, but we won't receive the resulting funding unless we can show it.
